R51 update

It's been about a year since I last posted about this band and I thought it was about time to give you guys a little update on everything that's been going on with them.

As you can tell from my last post about R51 I seriously frickin love this band.

So let's talk about new music!!!

We'll kick it off from BBC Across The Line on BBC Radio Ulster naming 'Elephant' from their EP 'No Chill' their Track for the day.

Summer 2016 saw them play an array of gigs and local music festivals including;
Stendhal Festival of Art

Sunflower Fest (getting a shout out on Lisburn's 98FM Sounds of NI - Sunflowerfest Special at 7 minutes in)

Swell festival

Belfast Culture Night at the Oh Yeah Centre.

Social Sounds Festival

Mel & Jonny also went on Across The Line for BBC Ulster Radio to talk about 'Elephant' check it out here.

Jonny also did an interview with Encore NI and you can read it here.

The band have also been featured in an article in the Daily Mirror Northern Ireland by Stuart Bailie.

R51 had the AMAZING opportunity to play as part of BBC Radio Ulster's Across The Line's 30th Birthday party in the Ulster Hall. You can watch their cover of Damien Rice - Volcano here.

Live performance from "Across The Line TV" 30th Birthday show at Ulster Hall, Belfast 5th Sept

FINALLY after months of hearing little snippets and rough tracks, they released their EP 'No Chill' and The Thin Air did an awesome premiere and interview which you can find here.

Chordblossom wrote an epic music review of the EP which you can read here.
The Thin Air also wrote another piece on 'No Chill' here.
ZoneNights Argentina featured 'No Chill' and hopefully your Spanish is up to scratch, here.

R51 supported Feeder in the Limelight and I was lucky enough to see it. CultureHUB Magazine wrote a brilliant article of the night, here.

SoFar Sounds had a secret gig in the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen's University and R51 performed an acoustic set which literally gave my chills and goosebumps and all the feels.

In November the band flew to Berlin, Germany to play in the Scratch My Progress 5th anniversary show.
ChordBlossom wrote about their gig in Loophole, Berlin (here.)
Lola also did a feature which you can read here.

And In December they then went to London to play a show at The Good Ship in Kilburn.

Their last show of 2016 was with Shizznigh Promotions in the Eglantine Bar in Belfast.

To end the year with a bang, R51's 'Elephant' was named on the The Thin Air’s Top 100 Irish Tracks of 2016.
And 'Morocco' also got a shout out on Chordblossom's Top 25 Northern Irish Songs of 2016.

They then released a version of them performing 'I'll be home for Christmas' in their own unique fashion which they performed last year for the BBC.
